Number of contacts
This indicates the number of contacts the connector has.
The locking system describes how the pin and socket elements are joined.
  • M12 The connectors can be screwed together to secure the connection. M stands for metric thread and the number stands for the external diameter.
  • M5 The connectors can be screwed together to secure the connection. M stands for metric thread and the number stands for the external diameter.
Degree of protection
The degrees of protection according to IEC60529 apply to various articles and provide information on protection against the intrusion of water and solids such as dust.
  • IP67 Fully protects against touch and against the intrusion of dust. Protects against water intrusion in temporary immersion (depth: 1 m; duration: 30 minutes).
The choice of version allows the definition of certain technical specifications – for example the type of cable outlet or the size.
  • AS-interface The AS interface is a standard for fieldbus communication for actuators and sensors in which the cables are attached by means of piercing.
Installation type
Connectors are differentiated by installation type: those that are mounted in a device housing (panel mount) and those that are attached to cables.
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) means that a connector is shielded or shieldable. This is required when it is necessary to protect the signals or data conducted by the connector, as well as to protect external devices, from disturbance due to electromagnetic effects.
Product segment
binder areas of application or type of connector.
  • Automation Technology Advancing digitisation and current manufacturing technologies make possible ever smaller and more high-performance elements in the areas of sensor technology and networking. Here, sensor technology means the detection of physical values and their conversion into electric values. These electric values are converted into a digital signal that can be transmitted by means of bus communication to other bus devices. This will make automated production more modular and flexible in the future, with a preference for standardised connectors like the models M8 and M12. The worldwide availability of the connectors and their adaptation to a broad range of applications have already led to numerous versions, e.g. codings.
To avoid mismating, the connector elements – the pin and socket – must be brought into form-fitting alignment with one another (coding) before being locked.
  • M12-A This coding has existed since M12 connectors began their rise to prevalence. Its standardised size in accordance with DIN EN 61076-2-101, with 4, 5, 8, 12 or 17 contacts, allows numerous possible applications, from power supply to data transmission.
The termination type determines how cables, single wires or PCBs can be joined with the connector.
  • dip-solder The special form of the contacts enables a through-connection on a PCB and automated wave soldering.
  • moulded on cable Single wires are assembled and the cable joined with the connector by means of plastics injection moulding.
  • screw clamp The wires in a cable are pressed in the contact element radially by means of a screw, establishing the electrical contact.
  • single wires Connectors with contacts attached to individual wires ex factory. These can then be connected individually.
  • solder The contact and the individual wires of a cable are connected using solder.

Automation technology - distributors, AS-interface

AS-Interface is still an important network solution and our distributors plus accessories help to install a network easily and efficiently. Our product range includes ready-to-connect and pluggable 4- and 8-way distributors with M5, M8 and M12 inputs/outputs. The ready-to-connect distributors are available with cables from 1 to 10 m in length as standard. They comply with protection class IP67 and often have LED status indicators. The AS-Interface product range also includes interface terminals for sensors and actuators, connecting cables and freely configurable flat cable terminals.
